Biographical / Historical

In the year of 1841, the Reformed and Lutheran congregations had to travel to various churches to worship. They felt the need for their own building to be used jointly by each congregation. It was given the name Solomon's in honor of Solomon Wesco, who donated "120 perches of ground" valued at $100, for the erection of the building and for burial purposes. On December 11, 1841, Solomon's Church of the German Lutheran and Reformed Congregations approved it's first constitution. In 1893 the Union church dissolved and it became Solomon's Reformed Church. In 1934, there was a merger of the Evangelical Synod of North America and the Reformed Church of the United States and the church became Solomon's Evangelical and Reformed Church. Finally in 1957, the Evangelical and Reformed merged with the Congregational Christian Churches and the church became known as Solomon's United Church of Christ.
