Biographical / Historical
Muddy Creek United Church of Christ is reported to be the mother church (1730). A preaching point was established at Michael Amweg's (now Swamp) as early as 1749. On May 22, 1755, a tract of land was received from the Penn heirs for a Calvinistic (Reformed) Church known as "Swamp Church Ground." In 1806, the present building, replacing a log building, was built. This was shared with the Lutherans until March, 1959, when they moved to their own building a short distance away. In November of 1961, Swamp UCC separated itself from the Muddy Creek Charge and called its first full-time pastor in June of 1962. Pastor's who served include: 1749-1752 John C. Templeman 1752-1755 John Waldschmidt 1756-1764 John H. Decker 1765-1786 John Waldschmidt 1787-1790 Anthony Hautz 1790-1791 John C. Amman 1792-1802 John C.
