Biographical / Historical

Egypt Reformed congregation was established in 1734, meeting for worship in the houses of Peter Troxell and George Kern, until the first church was built in 1764. A larger stone church was built in 1785, a third building was constructed in 1851. This church was a Union congregation until 1974, when the Reformed (UCC) congregation purchased the Lutheran share of the buildings and grounds. The Lutheran church then built its own building. Two Pewter Communion Bread Plates, 8" diameter, marked Townsend, London, ca. early 19th century. 4. One Pewter Communion Bread Plate, 7 5/8" diameter, marked ? and Compton, probably London, early 19th century. Rim of plate engraved with initials "M.E.K." (Mary E. Kohler) and "G.K." (Georger Kohler). 5. Pewter Tankard, 7 1/2" tall, marked W.R., probably England, probably late 18th-early 19th century. 6. Pewter Tankard, approx. 7" tall, unmarked, probably American, late 18th-early 19th century. 7. Pewter Ewer, 10 3/4" tall, unmarked, probably American, 1st half 19th century. 8. Pewter Chalice, 8" tall, unmarked, probably American, 1st half of 19th century. 9. Bible Marker, satin with opalescent bead work and gold metallic fringe.
