Biographical / Historical

Apple's (aka Jacob's, Owens or Owings' Creek) Union Church was organized ca. 1768 outside the town of Mechanicstown, MD. (Mechanicstown later changed its name to Thurmont). In 1859, the Mechanicstown Charge consisted of Apple's Church, St. John's Church of Creagerstown and St. John's Church of Sabillasville, MD. In 1880, the majority of the congregation moved into town to form Trinity Reformed Church, which was added to the charge. Apple's closed for a period of about 5 years, but was reorganized in 1885.
