Biographical / Historical
Early history of this church is rather vague but we know that the Rev. Jacob Lischey received a grant of 158 acres and 48 perches of land to build a house of worship. A congregation independent of any denomination was formed by Lischey. When Lischey died in 1781, the members of his congregation had to join the Coetus of the German Reformed Church to get a new minister. The new congregation was formed and a constitution was adopted in 1784. At the same time, a Lutheran congregation held services in the church. The Reformed and Lutheran congregations were growing and a need for a new location was evident. On May 7, 1806, a plot of land was obtained some distance from the original church. A new church was built and this became St. Peter's Lischey's Union Church. The church relocated two more times. Once in the 1840's and again in the 1890's.
