Biographical / Historical
Before the year 1847, Rehersburg had no Reformed Church. The Reformed People worshipped at Salem's Host Church and Blue Mountain Churches. They did begin holding services in the Altalaha Lutheran Church. Many of the Lutherans did not care for this situation and began to rebel. There was resistance to let Rev. Isaac Miese perform Lutheran services and he was locked out of the building. Some Lutherans, favorable to holding Reformed services, secured the key and opened the Church. The Lutherans were very opposed to letting the Rev. Miese enter the building. Some of those favorable to holding the Reformed services, escorted the Rev. to the Church door, where he was met by angry people holding clubs. The Reformed people claimed a right to hold services, but could not establish their claim by law. After these events, the people favoring the Union, held a meeting and decided to build the New Union Reformed and Lutheran Church. The cornerstone was laid on Whit-Sunday, in the year 1847. The church was dedicated on Saturday and Sunday, November 13th and 14th, 1847.
