In 1791 the organization of St. John's congregation was encouraged by the Rev. John Rubreck (Reformed) and the Rev. Andrew Schultz (Lutheran). Following the organization of the union congregations, five years passed before the work on the log structure begun and another year passed before its completion in1797. The log church served its purpose until 1877, forty-two years having passed with no record of changes. In that year, the second church building was erected and in 1925 extensive renovations were made as well as in 1960.
