Biographical / Historical
The New Bloomfield Reformed Charge consisted of two congregations: Trinity in New Bloomfield, Pa and St. John's in Markelsville, PA. In June 1798, members of Trinity united with the Lutherans to erect The Old Union Log Church. Pastors included Ulrich Heininger 1789-1802, Samuel Dubbendorf 1790-1795, Anthony Hautz 1798-1804, Jonathan Helfenstein 1805-1811, Albert Helfenstein 1811-1819. The Union Church was used for the last time in 1857 when the German Reformed and Lutheran Church divided. The Reformed Church divided into two charges and consequently the New Bloomfield Charge consisted of six congregations to include Trinity, New Bloomfield, Christ's, Newport, St. John's Markelsville, St. Andrew's Shuman (Eschol), St. David's Fio Forge and Zion, Fishing Creek. These six congregations were served by Jacob Scholl 1819-1847; Daniel Ganz, Samuel Kuhn 1851-1862.
