Biographical / Historical
St. Paul's Wilhelm was named for its location in the village of St. Paul and incorporated the family name of its early prominent members. Worship services were first conducted by the Rev. A. B. Koplin at the D. Hay Schoolhouse in the village. Later, services were conducted at the New Union Mennonite Church in St. Paul, and it was there that the congregation was formally organized in 1860. A cornerstone for the church was laid in June, 1868. The church was part of Paradise Charge with St. John's, Salisbury, PA until 1893 when it joined in a charge with St. John's, Grantville, MD. In 1969 St. Paul's and Amity formed the Amity-Meyersdale Charge. St. Paul's left the United Church of Christ in 2005 and became independent.
