Biographical / Historical

In 1912 the Line Mountain Charge was a Union Charge in Northumberland and Schuylkill counties. It was constituted to include: St. Michael's, Klingerstown; St. Jacob's, Pitman; St. John's, Leck Kill and Salem, Rough and Ready (Klingerstown R.D.). Christ Church, Leck Kill was originally known as Howerter's Lutheran and Reformed Church. The Reformed Church was known as St. Jacob's and the Lutheran was known as St. James. The Lutheran Church moved to Pitman in 1943. And in 1950 St. Jacob's merged with St. John's, Leck Kill to become the new Christ Church. During the 1960's the Charge decided to dissolve the Union, St. Michael's became a Lutheran Church in 1968 and in November 1970 Salem became a United Church of Christ.
