Beam Charge (Jenner, PA)

In 1858, Beam (Jenner/Boswell R.D. 2), Friedens (Friedens), Mt. Tabor ( Stoystown), and Calvary (Jenner Township) were taken from Somerset Charge to form the Beam Charge. The following year the Rev. William Conrad became the first pastor. The parsonage was located at Jenner Cross Roads and later moved to Stoystown. In 1870 Stoystown was added and i 1877 Hooversville became part of the Beam Charge. In 1878 Beam Charge was left with Beam and Calvary Churches when the others went to Stoystown Charge. W. H. Bates was pastor, and he organized St. Peter, Edie congregation, adding it to Beams Charge. Davidsville was part of the Charge until 1891 when it relocated to Holsopple, but was in and out of the Charge for short periods after that. In 1899 Jennerstown was organized and added to Beams Charge. For the next two years the Charge consisted of Beam, Edie, Calvary, Jennerstown and Holsopple, after which Holsopple was dropped. In 1914 Boswell was organized and added to Jenner Charge. In 1916 Calvary was abandoned. In 1930 Boswell (St. Paul) was moved from Jenner Charge to Beam Charge, so the Charge consisted of: Beam; St. Peter, Edie; Trinity, Jennerstown; and St. Paul, Boswell. In 1970 the four congregations merged into one under the name Mt. Laurel United Church of Christ, Boswell, near Gray, PA. Pastors who served this charge include: 1859-1863 William Conrad 1863-1864 W.
