Biographical / Historical

Reformed and Lutheran congregations worshipped together in North Wales, PA beginning in 1776. The original log structure burned down and was replaced by what became known as the "Old Yellow Church" located in what is presently St. Peter's Cemetery.

In 1866 the two congregations separated and established their own churches. Rev. Jonas M. Hartzell became the first pastor of St. Luke's Reformed Church. In 1929 Mr. Andrew Carnegie contributed $1,000 toward the purchase of a pipe organ which cost $2,000.

The merger of the Evangelical and Reformed Churches with the Congregational Churches in 1957 resulted in the writing of a new constitution. The name of the church was then changed to St. Luke's United Church of Christ, North Wales, PA.

St. Luke's closed in April 2022.
