Biographical / Historical
Charles Edgar Rupp, son of Rev. and Mrs. William Rupp, was born at Manchester, Md., August 18, 1879. Charles graduated from Lancaster High School in 1897. He spent one year in Franklin and Marshall Academy, and was graduated from Franklin and Marshall College in 1902. He then studied Law in the office of Coyle and Keller at Lancaster for about a year. Then he spent a year as a traveling salesman. In the fall of 1904, Mr. Rupp entered the Theological Seminary at Lancaster, graduating in 1907. He was licensed at Steelton by Lancaster Classis in May of 1907. On September 1, 1907, he was ordained by Juniata Classis and installed as pastor of the Friend's Cove Charge in Bedford County, PA. Pastorates included: Friend's Cove Charge (1907-1908); St. Clair's Charge (1908-1911); St. John's Reformed Church (1911-1916); Trinity Church (1916-1924); and Dallastown Charge (1925-1930). Due to a stroke, he resigned and returned to Lancaster, where he resided until his death on January 11, 1933, at the age of 53. On August 19, 1907, he married Dora Boyd Sams of Mann's Choice, PA. They had two sons and a daughter.
