Biographical / Historical

Anna Katherine Zierdt was born February 19, 1882 in Hazleton, PA., to Henry and Louise (Malkames) Zierdt. The family moved to Wilkes Barre when Anna was a child. She attended the Nurses' Training School, Elizabeth General Hospital, Elizabeth, N.J. She graduated with a R.N., and later studied at Livingstone College, London, 1932. She was a nurse and served as a medical missionary to China from the First Reformed Church, Wilkes Barre. Her missionary service began in 1921 and ended with the onset of World War II. Her field assignment was as a nurse at Abounding Grace Hospital, Yuanling, Hunan, China. She resided in Lancaster for the last 20 years of her life.
