Biographical / Historical
Harvey Crow was born near Liverpool, Perry County, on February 2, 1865, of Abraham and Mary Bair Crow. He attended rural schools, New Bloomfield Academy, and Bloomsburg State Normal School (1888). After serving as principal of Marysville (Perry County) Public Schools, entered the Theological Seminary at Lancaster and graduated in 1895. He was licensed by Carlisle Classis in May 1895 and was ordained August 2, 1895. Pastorates included: New Hamburg, Mercer County, PA. (1895-1900); Nittany Valley Charge (including Salona, Clinton County; Mt. Bethel, Clinton County; Jacksonville, Howard, Marsh Creek and Hublersburg, all in Center County) (March 1900-April 1910); Zion-Hublersburg Charge (April 1910-Sept. 1911); Bethany Reformed Church, Bethlehem (Lehigh & Northampton Counties) (1911-1921). Harvey Crow served as president of St. Paul's, West Susquehanna, and East Pennsylvania Classis. Delegate to meetings of the General Synod (1908, 1917, & 1932). Chairman of the Finance Committee 1917. Following his retirement in 1941 he was elected as Pastor Emeritus of Bethany Church, Bethlehem, serving as pulpit supply and assisting in the administration of communion. He was married to Anna Elizabeth Kass, July 7, 1895, in the Reformed Church in Duncannon, PA. They had two children: Mary Matilda (b. 1/17/1900) and Emma Elizabeth (b. 7/16/1904). Emma Elizabeth died June 6, 1977. Mrs. Crow died January 4, 1931. Rev. Crow died June 9, 1946, at the age of 81.
