Biographical / Historical

Lee Donald Loos was born on September 2, 1911 in Reading Pennsylvania. His parents were J. Llewellyn K. Loos and his mother was Katie B. (Kauffman) Loos. He was a graduate of Reading High School, Franklin and Marshall College and Lancaster Theological Seminary. He took advanced studies at Temple University's School of Theology. He was licensed on May 15, 1935 in Hamburg, Pennsylvania, Reading Classis and ordained on July 10, 1935, Friedensburg , PA, Schuylkill Classis. His first pastorate was the Friedensburg charge in Schuylkill County where he was ordained in St. John's Church in 1935. Other churches were St. Paul's, Summer Hill, and St. Mark's and Salem Church near Pine Grove. During that period he served as President of the Schuylkill Classis of the Reformed Church. In 1942, Loos moved to the Auburn Charge which included St. John's Auburn; Zion's, Orwigsburg; St. John's, Port Clinton; and Faith Landingville. At that time he also served on the Kingdom Service Committee of the Reading Synod. From 1948 until 1968, he served the Kimmerlings charge in Lebanon County, involving ministry at Grace, Richland; St. Paul's Union, Klopp's Church and St. Jacob's , Kimmerlings. From 1968 until 1977 he served Zion's United Church of Christ, Ephrata (Lincoln) Pennsylvania During that pastorate Loos served on the board of directors of the Lebanon County Community Chest, on the Lebanon County board for the Department of Public Assistance and on the Church and Ministry Committee of the Lebanon Association for the United Church of Christ. He was also the past president of the Richland Lions Club. Loos was a past master of Page Lodge 270, Free and accepting Masons, Schuylkill Haven, and a member of the Reading Royal Arch chapter 52; the DeMolay Commandery 9, Reading ; and the Raja Temple, Ancient Arabic order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Reading. Surviving besides his wife Mary, are two sons, L. Donald Jr., and Frank Oley.
