Biographical / Historical
The Rev. Hoshauer was born May 11, 1880, in Berks County. He was the son of Jacob Hoshauer and Emma Krick. He was married to Catherine Schnader and had one son, Elwood. He was educated in the public schools of Berks County, Pennsylvania; Kutztown Norman School, Kutztown Pennsylvania; Temple University School of Theology, Philadelphia; and the Ursinus School of Theology, Philadelphia. He received the Bachelor of Divinity from Central Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio in 1909. Adam Hoshauer was licensed by the Lebanon Classis in 1907, and ordained the same year by the Philadelphia Classis of the Reformed Church in the United States. During his active ministry he served the following Charges: St. Marks of Philadelphia, 1907- 1908; Port Missionary, 1908-1909; Woodcock Valley, Central Pennsylvania Synod, 1910-1912; Mt. Pisgah, Lawrenceville, Southwest Ohio Synod 1913-1917; Sulphur Springs, Hope, Northwest Ohio Synod 1917-1918; and in the Pittsburgh Synod, Hyndman-Wellersburg,, 1919-1923; Paradise-Troutville, 1924-1932; Red Bank 1933-1937; St. Paul's Titusville, 1938-1942; and Pleasant Unity, 1942-1957. After fifty years of ministry, Rev. Hoshauer retired from the pastorate of the Pleasant Unity Charge on October 20, 1957. He died in the Ohio Valley Hospital in McKees Rocks at the age of 88.
