Biographical / Historical

Bertram M. Werkheiser was born May 29, 1901 in Wind Gap, Pennsylvania. He was a 1924 graduate of Franklin & Marshall College, received his B.D. from Lancaster Theological Seminary in 1931 and a Master of Sacred Theology degree from Union Theological Seminary, New York in 1941. He was ordained by Lehigh Classis in 1931. His first pastorate was at Coplay, Pennsylvania where he served until 1940. In Philadelphia he served Grace Church from 1940 to 1958, St. Matthew's from 1958-1967, and Salem-Zion from 1967-1970. He served on the boards of Wyncote Church Home and Philadelphia Protestant Home for the Aged. He was married Naomi L. (Brong) Werkheiser. He died January 23, 1974.
