Biographical / Historical

United Theological Seminary began when the General Conference of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ ordered its founding in 1869. It was opened i 1871 and incorporated in 1873 in Dayton, Ohio as Union Biblical Seminary. In 1909 it was renamed Bonebrake Theological Seminary. The United Brethren Church merged with the Evangelical Church in 1946 to form the Evangelical United Brethren Church. In 1954, the Evangelical School of Theology, founded in Reading, Pennsylvani in 1909, merged with Bonebrake Seminary to become United Theological Seminary at Dayton. The EUB united with the Methodist Church in 1968 to become the United Methodist Church. In 2005 United Seminary moved to a new campus in Trotwood, Ohio.
