Biographical / Historical

Parkland Evangelical Church was a mission church started in 1912 by Rev. Conrad Held, Dr. Edward August Richard Torsch, and the Young Men's Bible Class from Bethlehem Evangelical Church in Louisville, KY. The first church service was held on November 3, 1912, with Rev. Otto Carl Miner being called as the first pastor.

Holy Communion was celebrated for the first time on Easter Sunday, March 23, 1912, and after the worship service a meeting was held to formally organize the church. The first church council meeting was held on August 4, 1913, and Articles of Incorporation were filed with the County Clerk on August 9, 1913.

The present lot for the church was acquired on August 30, 1913, and the church was dedicated on May 24, 1914.

A major flood destroyed the church in January 1937 and the church considered disbanding or rebuilding. They congregation decided to rebuild and on June 18, 1937, the church was rededicated.

The church disbanded on March 29, 1959.
